Food Finds (Reposted)

Reposted Wednesday, September 15, 2010 at 10:48pm

Had a great weekend with family and friends. Grant, Olivia and I went to deliver some hair bows at Yuri's Asian Store and check-out the store itself. With us were our friends Fung and Etet. Since we've never been there, we got lost. The good thing about it was we discovered a  restaurant. And boy good thing we did.  We just happen to drive by it while looking for Yuri's store then decided to go back. When you see the structure outside, you may not want to go in b/c it looks like a trailer. When we went in the ambiance was impressive. It's owned by a husband (american) and wife (thai). We talked to them and the wife who also the cook described the food she makes as of a street food in thailand. It was really good. The husband took our orders and mentioned that they lived in the jungle in Thailand.  I would recommend  for everyone to try this restaurant out in case you are in Port Royal, SC. After dining in we took pictures in the little shopping area. Most of the stores where closed and gives you a great setting in the background.Very nice!

Here's what we ordered:
*Grant had the DRUNKEN NOODLES-pan fried wide rice noodle with chicken and shrimp, sweet onion, green chili and fresh home grown Thai basil(yes they grow their own herbs)
*Olivia had spring rolls and a little bit of everyone's food
*Joanna had the BOAT NOODLE it is a thai noodle soup. it's spicy, salty, sour and sweet all in one. with beef broth, bean spout and slices of tender beef
*Fung had the PORT ROYAL PANCAKE with steamed oyster in rice flour pancake with bean sprout and served with a spicy sauce.
*Etet had a pork dish. I can't remember what she ordered. All i know it was good because we had to order two bowls of extra rice.

A Vivid Moment with my Mother

May 5, 2010 (Reposted)

At 9:00 o'clock in the evening, in our small bakery, I sit across my mother on a table full of small, tin mold. I see the steam coming out of a cup full of black coffee. We are making mini-pecan tarts. And, will probably stay until 3 o'clock in the morning to meet up an order the next day.

That is a very vivid moment with my mom. Oftentimes, I imagine the scenario in my head especially when I'm homesick. That very vivid moment with my mom taught me so many things. It taught me to be strong when I longed of her touch. Now that I'm a mother myself, I would find myself thinking oh yeah Ma told me so.

Things you told me to always ponder. And, even just gestures, I understood what you were trying to say. There are times you thought I wasn't listening but I was. Salamat, Ma kareng eganaganang tiru mu kaku.

Salamat din Apu Rosie, my second mother. I have so many vivid moments with you as well. And, they are still fresh up to now. I look back at those times and they comfort me whenever I feel lonely. Happy Mother's Day. Kaluguran da kayung Adwa. Para kekayu ya ini.
